The Articulated Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) is used to support the foot/ankle or knee. This orthosis offers much better support than the UCBL or SMO when extra stability is required. The articulated AFO is most commonly used in the management if neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy, post-CVA (stroke) as well as foot drop. The Articulated Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) is also recommended to patients with foot instability.
An Articulated AFO offers similar stability to a solid AFO, however allows the foot to move up or down when restricting this movement is either partially required or not required at all.
